Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a 1992 American horror-comedy film about a high school cheerleader (Kristy Swanson) who discovers that she is destined to fight vampires as a powerful "slayer." The movie costarred Donald Sutherland, Luke Perry, and Rutger Hauer.
Five years later, the film was taken in a different direction from the one its writer Joss Whedon intended, and he created the darker and acclaimed TV series of the same name.
Buffy (Swanson) is cheerleading at a school basketball game when she notices that one of the players is a vampire. She chases him out of the gym and to a nearby storage yard, where she runs into Lothos (Hauer), the local vampire king. Lothos hypnotizes Buffy. Pike (Perry) arrives but is unable to free Buffy from her trance. Buffy's "Watcher" Merrick (Sutherland) arrives and breaks the spell by attacking Lothos.
