Dracula A.D. 1972 is a 1972 British horror movie starring Christopher Lee as Dracula and Peter Cushing as his arch-enemy Van Helsing. It was one of many Dracula-themed movies produced by Hammer Film Productions and the first of these to be set in (then) modern times.
In 1872, Lawrence Van Helsing (Cushing) manages to kill Dracula (Lee) before dying of his injuries. A century later, a group of British counterculture hippies led by Johnny Alcurd (Christopher Neame) and Jessica Van Helsing (Stephanie Beacham) manage to bring Dracula back to life. Dracula then proceeds to kill the hippies or turn them into vampires. His goal is to turn Jessica into a vampire to avenge his death at the hands of Van Helsing, but Jessica's grandfather Lorrimer Van Helsing (Cushing) happens to be an expert on the occult, and he is quickly pressed into service to stop Dracula and save his granddaughter.
In the film's climax, Dracula has managed to capture Jessica. When Van Helsing arrives at the old church where she is being held, he finds that she is in a hypnotic trance. Later, Dracula uses his hypnotic powers to compel Jessica to rescue him after Van Helsing nearly kills him.
